Ummah Helping Hands (Charity No. 1100009) is a UK-registered charity founded in 1997 by Imam Hafiz Hifzur Rahman Tarapuri. Inspired by Islamic teachings of compassion and service, we began our work in the villages around Anand, Gujarat, where minority communities faced extreme poverty, lack of education, conflicts and injustice. In the aftermath of communal riots, ethnic clashes and floods, thousands of poor families were left homeless and deprived of basic livelihood. Moved by their plight during a visit to India, Imam Tarapuri and a few local brothers set up UHH to promote the welfare of these “poor, uncared, and uneducated” families who had no steady income or opportunities. From the outset, our mission has been to bring tangible hope and dignity to people whose normal lives have been disrupted by hardship.
Compassion, integrity and transparency guide every step of our work. We follow a strict 100% donation policy – every pound you give goes directly to our charitable programs. Donors can trust that we rigorously vet every beneficiary so that aid reaches the people who need it most. We are deeply grateful for each volunteer and donor, and we pray that Allah blesses their intentions. As the Holy Qur’an teaches us:
Spend [in charity] out of the wealth that We have provided you, before death approaches [and you say,] ‘O my Lord! If only You would grant me reprieve so I could do charity and be among the righteous.” — Surah al-Munafiqun (63:10)
This verse inspires us daily to give generously and sincerely. In the Prophet’s ﷺ words, “The best charity is providing water.” Indeed, we undertake projects – such as drilling wells and installing purification systems – to ensure communities have safe drinking water. For example, in December 2025 UHH installed a high-grade water purification system at the Sarvodaya Laghumati Campus in Vejalpur, Godhra, bringing clean water to orphaned hostel residents and local children. This immediate relief project directly addressed chronic skin ailments caused by contaminated water and greatly improved the health and well-being of those children.
Every action, no matter how small, can make a world of
difference in
the lives of those affected by disaster. Whether it’s a
donation.
